The DIY Waffle Bar of your Breakfast Dreams

The DIY Waffle Bar of your Breakfast Dreams

Think of a waffle like a blank canvas.

Who doesn’t love waffles? (We’re sure those people exist, but we don’t know any.) Even better than a crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside Belgian waffle is a stack of waffles, just waiting to be dressed up with whatever toppings make you happy. Introducing…the waffle bar!

Waffle bars make the ideal breakfast for a crowd, and they’re also perfect for brunch, dessert, or a special occasion snack buffet (think baby showers, movie nights, Galantine’s Day, and beyond). They’re deceptively simple—zero slaving away in the kitchen required. They’re also a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, since an interactive breakfast is inarguably fun, and each person can assemble their own unique waffles just the way their heart desires. Really don’t want to do much work? Ask your guests to bring their favorite toppings.

Start with Belgian Boys Belgian Waffles, crafted in the traditional style from the city of Liege in Belgium. They are made of a brioche dough with pearl sugar mixed in. For your dessert waffle bar—or for a decadent any-time waffle bar—add Chocolate Covered Waffles to the mix, too. The waffles are great served at room temperature, or you can have your guests warm them up for about 15 seconds in the toaster before adding their toppings.

Then all you have to do is put out some bowls of festive treats and let your family, friends or guests assemble their waffles just the way they want them. Pro tip: set up your waffle bar on a piece of butcher paper, so you can label each topping (or just doodle and decorate).

When it comes to toppings, we like a mix of fruity, crunchy and creamy, but it’s hard to go wrong. Here are some for inspiration:

  • Fresh berries
  • Banana slices
  • Whipped cream
  • Peanut butter
  • Nutella
  • Chocolate chips or shaved chocolate
  • Chopped nuts
  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Greek yogurt
  • Gelato or ice cream

Think of the waffle like a blank canvas. If you’re craving something savory, go ahead and serve a big bowl of scrambled eggs to round out the meal, but that’s absolutely optional. Bonus: you can give a prize to the creator of the most decant, creative, or yummy waffle. If you share a pic with the world, don’t forget to tag @belgianboys. Happy waffling!
